Can I be sick too?

I'm sitting in my den, waiting for my chocolate covered pretzels to cool.  Except for the faint sound of nighttime music playing in Claire's room, all is quiet.   I still have to go bag up those pretzels, but I wanted to quickly post before I finish up and go to bed.  My kids are great.  Of course, everyone thinks their kids are great, but mine really are.  :-)  God knows me so well, and He knew Connor and Claire so well, that He knew just the two children that are perfect for me.  We just fit.  I'm so thankful that God chose me to take care of them.  I do get stressed...no, REALLY easily, but God gives me these little quick moments with my children that I can miss if I'm not paying attention.  Some are silly, some are very personal and sweet, and some are just plain funny--to me that is.  God gave me one of those moments tonight.

So, I pretended to be a SAHM, and stayed home today with what was a sniffling, sneezing, coughing, stuffy head, feverish, 6 year old (Claire).  This morning she was pitiful. She stayed in my bed, because everyone knows that your parent's bed is THE place to be when you are sick.  Well, evidently it worked miracles!  By about 1:00, most of her symptoms had gone away.  She still has a nagging cough, and a REALLY yucky nose (TMI?), and now a sore throat.  Bedtime gets here and Claire zonks out like a light. Both kids are tucked in snuggly.   However, my big 10 year old (Connor) came to me (just after I had already sent  him back to bed for the 2nd time), to tell me that he still had too much energy and that was making it hard for him to sleep. I told him to just lay down and try to relax.  Not long after that, he came into the den to say that he was burning up.  He just knew (rather HOPED) he had himself a fever. You know, the old "My sister stayed home from school today b/c she had a fever, so maybe I can be sick too and stay home from school" trick. Well, he was, and is, cool as a cucumber.  After I sent him back to bed, I heard the forced "fake" coughing start.  When I didn't respond because I knew he wasn't really coughing, it miraculously stopped. He's a persistent little guy.  Bless him.  It was worth a try.  I really love my kiddos.

Kellie
